In a remarkable feat of endurance and harmony, 112 singers came together on a single stage in Nagpur to perform 121 consecutive duet songs — a stirring musical tribute that has now been registered in the Great Indian Book of Records – 2026.
A Marathon Musical Tribute to Mohammed Rafi
The record attempt was organised by the Dr. Dande Foundation and the Shri Santi Ganeshotsav Cultural Committee as a special musical programme titled “Gaye Chala Ja”, dedicated to the legendary playback singer Mohammed Rafi. The concept was conceived by senior singer Sunilkumar Waghmare.
Twelve professional and one hundred amateur singers joined hands to present 121 duet songs, with the marathon performance continuing for nearly 12 hours at Amrit Bhavan Hall, Mauda.
A Record Within a Record
Adding to the day’s achievements, Apurva Hirde, a talented singer from Mauda, set a unique record of her own by performing 50 duet songs alongside a variety of co-singers.
Inaugurated by Distinguished Guests
The programme was inaugurated by Shrimant Mudhojiraje Bhosale, litterateur Dr. Sagar Khadiwala and Prakash Kothari of the Swaminarayan Trust, in the presence of dignitaries including Jayprakash Gupta, Narendra Sateeja, Bharat Thakkar, Manoj Thakkar, corporator Shrikant Aglawe, IPS officer Vinita Sahu, Sanjay Chinchole and actor Devendra Dodke.
Great Indian Book of Records founder and director Dr. Indrajeet More was present on the occasion. All participating singers were honoured with medals and certificates for their contribution to this historic musical record.
